23 year old freelance digital artist and illustrator Lexie Harford, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire was born with a beautiful red birthmark (also known as a port wine stain birthmark) covering the right side of her face. In addition, she was born stunning eyes. One happens to be blue and the other is green.
Lexie explains that one day she decided not to cover her birthmark with makeup. She then went on to post a picture. This resulted in overwhelming positive responses. From mothers who’s children have birthmarks as well to others confessing they bullied a person with a birthmark. But of course with the good there comes the bad.
Lexie has been approach to appear multiple shows called Too Ugly For Love? and The Undateables. Both in which she has turned down! (Good for her because that’s bullshit. Are they serious with those titles? How degrading can tv networks be. Having a skin condition should not equate to ‘being ugly’. Ugh, things like this infuriated me!!) She says, “If people with birthmarks accepted themselves, they really wouldn’t go on a show like that.” In addition, Lexie says “I’ve always wanted to raise awareness; I just never figured out how.”
