If you’ve noticed your skin has become blotchy, you might have tinea versicolor. Tinea Versicolor is a fungus that is caused by an overgrowth of yeast that already exists on your skin. Luckily, this fungus is harmless. Most cases of this are benign, however it is best to get checked out by a doctor/dermatologist.

Causes of tinea versicolor

  • Hot and humid weather
  • sweating
  • tight clothing
  • oily skin

Please be mindful of when sweat builds as yeast is naturally drawn to those areas. Tinea versicolor is not contagious and usually goes away by fall and winter.

*It is important to note that many people may mistake this for vitiligo, eczema or sun spots.
