Aysa – An App for Checking Skin Conditions

An App a day, keeping the doctors away…or rather at bay.

Aysa is a consumer-facing dermatology app that helps you recognize and/or identify lesions, rashes, and other skin conditions. This app is backed by VisualDx, a clinical decision support system software used by medical professionals.

VisualDx uses peer-reviewed photographs or diagrams of medical conditions to help diagnose a particular condition. The system is known to store over 100,000 photos. Additionally, it can research previous medication to find adverse drug reactions they may be suffering from.

Aysa works by:

  1. Snapping a picture of your affected skin
  2. Answering questions pertaining to yourself to help guide the process
  3. See the results and take action

This app is known as a symptom checker and can be used anytime, anywhere. One benefit of using this app is the quick turn around. Obviously, if you have a serious medical condition, its best to seek a doctor or perhaps go to the emergency room. However, for those conditions that aren’t so severe, this is a great alternative. Especially is your doctor’s office is booked for weeks out in advance.

In my opinion, the best feature of this app is that it allows access to all different skin tones. Previously I blogged about an article that used a lot of coded language of divide (fear) and conquer. VisualDx’s algorithm allows for inclusion as it addresses racial disparities in digital dermatology.
