A few days ago I saw a post on The Everygirl’s Instagram account with the quote, “I would tell anybody who is unhappy in their career or personal life, do not hesitate or feel bad about changing directions and getting away from circumstances that do not inspire, motivate and energize you.” (from Annie Lawless Co-Founder of Suja Juice) I loved the quote so much that I decided to check out Suja juice. I’m personally a huge fan of Kombucha juice and drink it every morning, but I do see Suja juice everywhere. So naturally I wanted to read about the company and founder. To my surprised I learned that Annie had a bout of eczema, allergies, and Asthma otherwise known as the triple threat!
In this TEDxLaJolla Talk, Annie describes what led her to the journey of starting her company Suja. In her early childhood she describes growing up on SAD. The Standard American Diet – think goldfish, lunchables, capri-sun, chips, soda etc. She also suffered from eczema covering her body (0:47 when she talks about eczema), severe allergies and asthma. Like many of us who suffered from eczema at a young age, she was given steroids (grrr…).
In 8th grade, she saw a pediatrician who mentioned eczema being an auto-immune condition and told her to get tested. This is where she finds out that she has celiac disease, an intolerance to gluten. She states that within two weeks her eczema completely disappeared.
This led her to do research where she found out about juicing and all the benefits. Not only did she research but she also uses the best juicer the norwalk juicer
And the rest is history.
